Small Steps Lead to Big Changes

Hello, I'm Dana Bouwman, founder of Key Condo Management. Our company was launched only a short time ago in June 2023. However, my journey in the condo management industry and as an entrepreneur began long before that. 

My entrepreneurial journey began when I was just 20 years old when I started my own web development business. While I wasn’t able to innovate or scale that first business as much as I would have hoped, and eventually I did close that business down, the experience I gained and the lessons learned such as the significance of perseverance, client management, and adaptability in a dynamic market were invaluable. 

For almost a decade after winding up my first business, I took every opportunity possible to connect with successful business people and learn everything I could about how to run a successful business. I would take note of what other business people did and keep track of where they were successful and where they failed. For years, I volunteered tens of hours a week to different business groups doing their grunt work because that allowed me the opportunity to be close to them and learn from them. 

All of this hard work laid the groundwork for me to dip my toe back into the entrepreneurship pool again. In 2021 I moved from Edmonton to Calgary to establish the Calgary office from scratch for my previous employer. I was still an employee at this time, but I was expected to take the reins and build the office from the ground up with very little guidance. 

In June 2023, it was a natural step for me to break out on my own to start Key Condo Management. But this time I wasn’t starting from scratch as I acquired four clients from my previous employer to jump start Key Condo. This was my second venture into starting a condo management company in Calgary, but this time, it was entirely my own. 

As I look back on my journey, I am grateful for every experience that has led me to this point. Each step has been a learning opportunity. Starting Key Condo Management is a testament to the power of perseverance, learning from past experiences, and continuously striving for excellence.
